Hi, my name is Jeff, and welcome to my "Lunar Eclipse" Page!
On Thursday night, May 15th, 2003 there was a Total Lunar Eclipse that was visible across the eastern half of the United States.  On the evening of the 15th I went out to the Fox Valley Astronomical Society's public viewing site in Geneva, IL to view and photograph the eclipse. For more lunar eclipse information click here.

At first, it was doubtful that we were going to be able to see the eclipse as the sky was almost complete cloud-covered. But being the dedicated observers (fools) that we are, several of us FVAS club members came out with our equipment and hoped for the best. A few members of the public also came out with their equipment to view and photograph this event! Just after 8:00 PM, the clouds started breaking up and we were able to view the entire eclipse. We had a FABULOUS time!

Here are some of my pictures of the progressive stages of Thursday night's eclipse. ENJOY!

The pictures above were taken with a Sony Mavica MVC-CD1000 Digital Camera mounted on a Celestron tripod.  Most of the pictures were taken at the camera's full zoom power of 20x.  As you can see in a few of the pictures, I experimented with different exposure settings. Check out some of the stars beneath the Moon on several of the pictures!
For visual observing, I was using a Celestron Wide View 80mm F/5 Refractor on a CG-3 EQ mount with tracking drive, a set of Miyauchi 22x60 45º Fork-mounted Binoculars, and a pair of Celestron Ultima 8x56 Binoculars.
